Richard Brown received a Bachelor of Arts and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Cincinnati, followed by receiving a Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University College of Law. As an attorney in private practice for 42 years, Brown has handled hundreds of construction, oil & gas, medical malpractice, and insurance coverage and defense cases around Ohio. His expertise has earned him an “AV” rating from his peers, signifying the highest in legal ability and ethics. He is licensed in Ohio state courts, various federal courts, and the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. Brown has also  been a member of various national, state, and local bar associations and was selected as “Best Lawyer” by Columbus CEO Magazine from 2010 – 2017.

In addition to his extensive legal background, Brown has served the public as  a State Representative in the Ohio House of Representatives for 7 years. Brown was first appointed in 2017 then won election in 2018 and was re-elected in 2020 and 2022, primarily serving the eastern and southeastern parts of Franklin County. He served in House leadership as Assistant Minority Whip for 4 years, and as Ranking Member of the Criminal Justice, Civil Justice, and Government Oversight Committees.

Brown has lived in Canal Winchester for 27 years where he and his wife raised their 3 children. They now have 5 grandchildren. Brown is involved in the local community as a member of the Canal Winchester Historical Society, the Canal Winchester Chamber of Commerce, as served as president of the Canal Winchester Diamond Club, overseeing fundraising efforts for the high school baseball program. Brown also served as a youth baseball coach for many years.
